Nintendo Might Have Accidentally Leaked Pokken Characters

On Tuesday, the Pokémon Company officially revealed Pokken Tournament, a new fighting game combining the characters of the Pokémon universe with the development and mechanics of Bandai Namco’s Tekken franchise. The preview clip showcased Lucario and Machamp fighting each other with unique and character-type driven attacks. However, when I first saw this, I knew I saw this battle already, and in fact I did.

Two months ago, the Pokémon Company showcased a video for Japan showcasing their new series of the Pokémon Trading Card Game; Furious Fists. Since I’m not a die-hard fan of the recent card game, I didn’t see the video until it was aired in North America and uploaded on the Pokémon Company’s YouTube page. In the 16-second clip, four Pokémon were featured and specifically mentioned: Dragonite, Blaziken, Lucario (Mega form), and you guessed it, Machamp. The four of them are battling each other with, well, their fists (hence it being calling Furious Fists).

Now, 2/4 being featured in the preview for Pokken Tournament might not be a guaranteed thing. It could be a coincidence, right? But let’s go back to 2013, where the Pokémon Company had this unique clip. In it, the viewer went through the years of the series from Pokémon Red and Pokémon Blue to Pokémon X and Pokémon Y with a mysterious 5-second clip of Lucario and Blaziken. The clip, in hindsight looks VERY similar to the clip that was shown to us yesterday. See where I’m getting at?

So Machamp, Lucario, and Blaziken have been featured in a Pokken Tournament sequence. What are the odds that three Pokemon featured in the Pokémon Trading Card commercial would also be three that are featured in Pokken (so far)? Let’s find out!

There are 719 officially announced Pokémon (Bulbasaur to Diancie). Since the order doesn’t matter, we’re using combinations. So if we were to pick three Pokémon (without repeating) out of the 719 officially announced, we have 61,690,919 combinations. That’s right. 61,690,919.

Yes, I understand that the chances of having Metapod or Eevee as a playable character are pretty low, but assuming that each Pokémon is viable gives us this massive amount of combinations, and such small probability that this is a coincidence.

So this logically makes me predict that Dragonite will be a playable character. And as a side note, Dragonite was pretty heavily featured in the animated series as a physical fighter with Iris as its trainer. Another possible coincidence, but worth noting nonetheless.

This also makes me think that the whole Furious Fists roster of cards could be a hidden list of characters to the Pokken Tournament game. Weepinbell, for example, might not be featured, but here are my other predictions:

This list, though not all Fighting-types, all seem to be easily envisioned as sparring partners. Who knows, I could be totally wrong, but with these odds, it’s at least worth a shot. (I did do a pretty extensive search on this to see if someone else tried presenting this; none has been found)

So what do you guys think? Am I crazy with my logic? Who do you predict will be playable characters for Pokken Tournament?
