In an interview with IGN, Diablo 3’s lead producer Alex Mayberry confirmed that Diablo 3 is being developed for the PlayStation 4 and the Xbox One, though he could only announce the PlayStation 4 version of the game.
“The way we develop, it’s as if there will be an Xbox One version, but until it’s announced there’s nothing official” Mayberry said, meaning that the Xbox One version’s development could be halted at some point in the future.
As to the PlayStation 4 version, Mayberry said, “It’s being worked on…I don’t have any release dates to announce, but it’s not far behind. They kind of have to wait for the PC side to wrap before they can completely finish, but they’ve been in parallel development with us the whole time.”
Though he wouldn’t give a release date, Mayberry did assure IGN that, “It won’t be long, but I can’t give an exact date as we still need to go through certifications.”
My Opinion
Back when I played World of Warcraft, the community would always joke about “Blizzard Time.” Blizzard makes great games, and they aren’t afraid to take their time to release those games, balance fixes, or new content. This means that content was always qualified with, “we don’t have a release date, but it’s coming soon!” “Coming Soon(TM)” became a running joke within the Blizzard forum community.
I feel like this could be the case here, and while Diablo 3 is a pretty fun game and should have its chance to shine on the now-current gen consoles, we might not see it anytime soon.
