Microsoft has announced that the Xbox One passed 3 million units sold through the end of 2013. This is a huge number for only a month and nine days but is right around where they expected total sales to be at this time. It was previously announced that the Xbox One sold close to 1 million consoles in its first nine days in the United States alone, and 2 million worldwide by December 12th. Sony has not announced how many PlayStation 4 units have been sold yet but it is believed they might announce it during their CES keynote later today.
My Opinion:
This is an awesome announcement for Microsoft. Both of the new consoles were expected to sell very well and this proves that the Xbox One was able to do just that. The sad part of this story is that the Wii U had only sold 4.3 million units by the middle of December, so the Xbox One is practically already caught up. I look forward to seeing how many PlayStation 4 units sold compared to the Xbox One. I also look forward to finding out how many they both sell over the next year. If they continue at this pace (unlikely but possible) they will be some of the fastest selling consoles of all time.
