Sucker Punch On Not Working On Other Platforms

Before the now legendary studio Sucker Punch became a subsidiary of Sony Computer Entertainment in 2011, they were an independent studio, despite working exclusively on PlayStation platforms since 2000. Many have asked why Sucker Punch has such a focus on the PlayStation platform, and also why such a prominent studio has refused to open up a second team.

inFAMOUS: Second Son producer and studio founder Brian Fleming answered those age old questions in an interview on Edge.

“Our studio really prizes focus. We’re a one-team studio; we’ve always been that. Anything that steals focus from that is something that we’re trying to eliminate, whether that’s starting a second team to work on another game, or working on another platform simultaneously. All of those things compete for our focus, so we’re very driven by the ability to isolate anything that’s a distraction from what we’re trying to do.”

Sucker Punch is responsible for both the Sly Cooper series and the inFAMOUS series. Their newest entry into the inFAMOUS series; inFAMOUS: Second Son is set to release on March 21st.

My Opinion

Being a big PlayStation fan (hence why I’m MONG’s PlayStation reporter) Sucker Punch is one of my very favorite studios, coming in only behind Naughty Dog and Santa Monica Studios. And it’s nice to see such a focused studio in an increasingly unfocused industry.
