MGSV 1080p on PS4, 720p on Xbox One

It has been announced by Konami that the upcoming cross generation Metal Gear Solid V will indeed be native at 1080p on PS4, and 720p on the Xbox One.

It was also announced that both the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One versions of the game will run at a solid 60 FPS. The last gen versions of the game (PS3, 360) will run at 30 FPS at 720p (Scaling internally).

Kojima commented on the controversy that this news has created on Twitter:

“Being asked so often about differences in “frame rate” and “resolution” depending on the hardware model make little sense to me, but I listened, so I plan to publish it tomorrow (laughs).”

He also commented on the Next Gen versions Vs. the PS3/360 versions:

“Well, once you play with the next gen version, it’s smooth like butter, and you won’t be able to go back to the current gen version though. (laughs)”

He also made another comment on the FOX engine that the game uses:

“The reason why we created FOX Engine was to be able to bring open world games efficiently even on current generation consoles.”

My Opinion

Oh boy, we continue to see the Xbox One versions of multi-platform games running worse than their PS4 counterparts. Look, I don’t have much of an opinion on this situation, because honestly, it’s not really that surprising. Though I have a question for Microsoft, was the Kinect REALLY worth cutting down on the power of you console?
