The Swapper comes to PS3, PS4, Vita this Spring

Indie sidescroller The Swapper will make its way onto PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, and PlayStation Vita this spring.

Being published by Curve Digital, the independant title is planned for release on Sony platforms in mid-May as a digital download. The game also features cross-buy and cross-save functions across the platforms. Curve Studios, Curve Digital’s sister company, will handle development of the title.

Originally released on PC in 2013, The Swapper is a sci-fi puzzle platformer taking place on a destroyed space station where players use up to four clones to solve various puzzles in a dark and grim environment. The game, which started off as a project by Finnish developer Facepalm Games, was critically acclaimed, getting a 87 on Metacritic at the time of this story. It was praised for its claustrophobic atmosphere, its story, and unique art style.

Jason Perkins, Managing Director at Curve Digital said, “The Swapper highlights everything great about modern indie games – It’s polished, its mechanics seem simple but provide a great deal of depth, and it touches on themes and narratives that triple-A games rarely explore.”

Olli Harjola, one of the two original developers of The Swapper, added, “The reception of The Swapper blew me away when we launched on PC last year, and it’s really exciting to be able to launch the game to a brand new group of gamers on PlayStation.”

My Opinion

This will be a great addition to the Sony indie library. The fact that this game, which looks beautiful on PC, will be on all Sony platforms, including the Vita, is exciting. I cannot wait to get this game in my hands and explore the fallen space station of Theseus.
