The Last of Us Movie Will Be A Game Adaptation

Any and all news over the past seven days regarding The Last of Us has been directed towards the newly announced The Last of Us live-action movie.

Last night at the BAFTA Game Awards 2014 event, The Last of Us creative director Neil Druckmann told IGN that the upcoming The Last of Us movie will be an adaptation of the game rather than a different story.

“It’s an adaptation of the story of The Last of Us,” states Druckmann “As far as where we go and how we make it fit into a film, how it takes into account the unique properties of film… We’re not sure yet. We’re only just scratching the surface.”

No details about a release date or possible actors have been revealed at this time.

My Opinion:

We discussed this topic at length on MONG Podcast Episode 23. My opinion has not changed since this recording: I am very skeptical about adapting The Last of Us to the silver screens.  I was really hoping that this would involve a side story or be about the outbreak rather than the actual game.  I don’t want to see anyone other than Troy Baker and Ashley Johnson as Joel and Ellie, and I don’t want my experience with the story to be altered with a possible crappy movie.  But, this is good news for Naughty Dog regardless because they will probably pull in a whole lot of cash when this is released!
