Martin O’Donnell, the Bungie composer of games like Halo and the upcoming Destiny, has been terminated from Bungie.
O’Donnell joined Bungie before it was acquired by Microsoft. Recently, he tweeted, “I’m saddened to say that Bungie’s board of directors terminated me without cause on April 11, 2014.” This tweet comes on April 16, which is an odd time to announce this.
Bungie then posted on their official website a post titled “There are those who said this day would never come.” that only says the following: “For more than a decade, Marty O’Donnell filled our worlds with unforgettable sounds and soundtracks, and left an indelible mark on our fans. Today, as friends, we say goodbye. We know that wherever his journey takes him, he will always have a bright and hopeful future. We wish him luck in all his future endeavors.”
My Opinion
I feel for Marty. It is tough to be terminated from a company that relied on you. This is the man that composed one of the best video game themes in history. I don’t know why he would have been fired like this. Sometimes, the game industry is a fickle beast.
