Beat Hazard DLC: Design Your Own Ships!

Beat Hazard, the music-based shoot-em-up (schmup) game, released a new pack of downloadable content today featuring new ships and Steam Workshop support called Shadow Operations Unit.

There are nine new ships to choose from as you take on waves of asteroids, enemies, and other debris to the soundtrack of your own music. The new ships range from large, slow, and powerful to small and lithe to crazy assortments of auto aim and bizarre firing patterns.

Each ship has its own leader board and “shadow missions,” which will let players unlock more crafts.

If you don’t like the designs Cold Beam Games provides, you can create and upload your own; if you’re unable to design but still don’t like what Cold Beam Games provides, you can download designs from other players.

Beat Hazard: Shadow Operations Unit is currently on sale at $4.49 on Steam and will remain so for the next forty hours.

My Opinion

Beat Hazard is a really cool game, yet one I didn’t really connect with. It’s really quite hard and I recall some issues with collision detection, though I haven’t played the game in years and I imagine some of those issues have long since been fixed.

But even if they haven’t, the addition of new ships with different firing patterns means I’m bound to find something that works for me, and I really like the idea of uploading my own pictures and creating my own ships to use. It’s a game hook I’ll gladly fall for.

I’m thinking it’s time to load this game back up and see what kind of scores I can rack up to Iced Earth and Trivium. Let Vengeance Falls on my enemies!
