The Xbox One will be launching in Japan on September 4th, 2014, according to Microsoft. Their site lists a number of games that will be coming to the Japanese XB1. It confirms such titles as Dead Rising 3 and Ryse: Son of Rome, both of which were launch titles in the North American launch of the XB1. The release makes no mention of pricing, presumably that is forthcoming.
This news comes on the heels of last week’s story of the numbers of XB1s sold. According to a Microsoft press release, more than five million XB1s were sold to retailers through March.
My Opinion:
While it is important for Microsoft to make its console available in as many markets as it can for higher sales numbers, I don’t know if it will be worth the effort. As I recall, there were not many sales of the two previous Xbox consoles in the region. When I saw Xboxes on the store shelves in Okinawa, they were on the bottom shelf, in an inconspicuous spot, not unlike the situation the Ouya finds itself in my local retail store today.
