Avengers Game Waits for Great Developers

Marvel will make and release an Avengers game when they find a developer that “wants to do it right.”

In a discussion with IGN, Marvel’s Head of Games TQ Jefferson said that if an Avengers game is to come out, then it needs to be done right. “The Avengers game will come when we have the right partner, that has the right vision, that has the time to develop a strong, competitive triple-A title and wants to do it right,” he told IGN. “It has to hit our three pillars: Fun and engaging gameplay, true to the characters, compelling story. Without hitting those notes, we shouldn’t do it. Gamers, they know better. They’re not going to flock to something that’s sub-par.”

Jefferson attributes this to mediocre games like the tie-in games for Captain America and Thor. “I think in the heyday of the movie licensed game, these games were popping out all the time and most of them sucked.

“We would rather not have a game than to just sign something to have something out on time.”

My Opinion:

Even though I would love an Avengers game, I appreciate the fact that Marvel is taking a stance against it. Granted, he gives gamers a little more credit than it deserves (people still buy these games, obviously), but this decision is the best for movie licensed games as a whole. I would also like to nominate Volition. After Saints Row IV, they know how to make a great superhero game, and I trust them with the licence.
