In Nintendo’s E3 Digital Event, a new game Splatoon was revealed in a trailer.
The gameplay shown so far is a multiplayer four-on-four shooter with an original territory dynamic represented visually through ink.
Each shot fired is a blast of ink in the team’s color. This ink is fundamental to the gameplay in a couple of ways. First, whichever team covers more of the level with their color ink wins the match. Second, players move faster through their ink and can change forms from a humanoid to a squid to swim in their own color ink. Third, hitting an enemy with your ink color stuns them in a way that they cannot immediately contribute to the game.
The game also has two features unique to the Wii U’s Gamepad: looking around with the second screen and gyroscopic motion controls; and quick travel to teammates through the map displayed on the Gamepad.
Nintendo stated that the game is to be released in first half of 2015.
My Opinion:
This Splatoon game is the most original shooter game I have seen in a long time. I think that this game deserves all of the hype that Titanfall received at last year’s E3. I’m afraid that nobody will care, though.
Every shot you fire, even misses, will help your team win the game. How come nobody thought of a mechanic like that? This game is going to be fun for everyone. Why do I have to wait so long for this game? I want it now.
Dustin LaRoe is pretty awful at games. If you want proof, watch him on Twitch as Guy105. His Gamertag and Steam ID are Guy 105.
