Some Original Xbox One Policies are Still Possible

Phil Spencer said during an interview with GamertagRadio that some of the original Xbox One policies are still possible.

“We looked at the digital features that we had talked about last year and as a gamer, there were a lot of those features that I think really resonated and were smart features for people…  As I look at our monthly update road map, those kind of features are in our road map. There is a little bit of a challenge now that you’ve got DRM on a disc.”

Microsoft had many features originally announced before the release of the Xbox One. A family sharing program and pre-order preloading were some of them and many of these were based on digital downloads. Due to fan backlash, many of these features were removed before launch.

My Opinion:

Microsoft did a very poor job of explaining their plans when they first announced them. Some of them were really good ideas but they had to abandon them because of the backlash from fans.  I’m glad to see they are still exploring options for how to implement some of them.

  1. I think always online is gone for a while. Part of their mistake was not being clear how that worked but internet service across the country is just not ready yet.
