The EA owned developer, Maxis, could be developing a sandbox game with similarities to games like Minecraft and LittleBigPlanet.
The developer known for SimCity and The Sims is searching for a senior designer to head up a new triple-A RPG and crafting game.
A recent job listing by Maxis indicates that they are searching for someone who understands “the principles of game progression design, crafting trees, technology trees, character RPG-style leveling design and mathematical loot progression.”
Though little is known about this game, it seems likely that EA will “weave in” monetization and adopt a Free-to-Play MMO model.
No platforms were listed, but based on the job listing it seems likely that it will come to PC.
My Opinion:
If this is in fact a new IP from Maxis, then I will be very excited to hear more about this project. However, the possibility of free-to-play aspects will most likely turn me away me away from playing the game when it releases. Regardless, it is great to see a talented studio like Maxis branching out.
