Metrico (the infographics inspired game from developer Digital Dreams) has a release date and new trailer.  The news comes courtesy of the PlayStation Blog where it announced that on August 5th players can experience the unique game when it releases digitally on the PSN.

Accompanying the release date of the exclusive PS Vita game will be a free demo available on the same day.  The demo allows gamers to experience the 1st world of Metrico which makes up around 5% of the full game.  Metrico is comprised of action elements mixed with puzzles, but explaining what you do and how the game operates is a difficult task.  Even the developers have a hard time putting the mechanics of Metrico into words, as shown by level designer Roy van de Mortel.

“The main reason we took such a long time to show gameplay footage is because we always felt the main mechanics of Metrico are quite tricky to explain through video. We never got around to solving this, even though this is probably a recurring issue for novel game concepts.”

While not being able to fully convey the gameplay experience, the trailer does showcase the visuals and music.  Music is a big component of Metrico;  it is done by Palmbomen, a Dutch synth composer.  The music interacts with the players movements, with each world being a unique music track.

My Opinion:  

Metrico is a game I wasn’t familiar with before, but is now on my radar.  Viewing the trailer, the game certainly looks unique and the music is catchy.  I will certainly give the demo a shot to get a better grasp on how the game actually plays.  Sony needs more exclusive content for the PS Vita and it looks like Metrico will be ideal for the hand-held experience.
