Coming off of the heels of WildStar’s last patch, Strain, the new patch entitled Sabotage will be focusing on improving and expanding Player vs. Player content.
The focal point of the patch will be the new arena, Daggerstone Pass, which will pit two teams of 15 against one another with the goal of destroying the other team’s fusion core.
To help each team accomplish this task, there will be Uplinks which will allow for airstrikes as well as bombs. The more interesting of the two field mechanics being the bomb, which can be used on either enemy or friendly targets. This mechanic alone opens the possibility of some very sneaky double-agent work or a bunch of griefing. Either way, it adds an interesting new dimension to the Daggerstone Pass.
As far as rewards go for participating in the new battleground, players will be able to acquire a new pair of boots granting the wearer the effects of “callisthenics”. While little is known about this new special effect, a quick google search can give you a vague idea as to what the developers have in-store. In addition to the boots, there will be five new housing items implemented for each faction.
At the very tail end of the preview video, you can see a teaser for the next upcoming patch in August involving something called “The Entity”.
My Opinion:
I tried out WildStar, and it just wasn’t able to hold my attention. I wanted to like it so much but the aesthetic and the overly-hyped telegraph system wasn’t able to deliver what I had hoped. Not to mention, these monthly patches sound great in theory until you dissect just how little content is coming with each one. It’s important to remember that Strain and Sabotage were both probably finished before the game even came out and queued up for set release dates. I wish WildStar nothing but the best but, as far as I can tell, it will be following in the footsteps of Tera and will be Free-to-Play by the end of the year. While this could be a good thing for the game, many games have suffered from the Pay-to-Play to Free-to-Play transition. Will WildStar be able to stick to its promises while so many other developers have tried the same system and failed? I guess we’ll know in the coming months.
