At a Screen Gems Comic-Con Panel, The Last of Us games’ director Neil Druckmann and movie producer Sam Raimi (Evil Dead, Darkman, Spider-Man trilogy) made a surprise guest appearance to talk about the recently announced The Last of Us movie.
Sam Raimi had this to say about the script of The Last of Us movie:
“What’s unique is that Neil’s writing the script. I have a great deal of confidence we’re going to end up with a script that’s true to the strengths of the game.”
However, the biggest news is that Maisie Williams (Arya Stark of Game of Thrones) has been in talks about co-starring as Ellie. Ashley Johnson played Ellie in The Last of Us game. One of the coolest things about this announcement was that it all started with a series of tweets.
With Neil Druckmann, Ashley Johnson, and Maisie Williams on board, The Last of Us seems more likely to happen. The only problem they would face is Williams’ commitment to Game of Thrones.
My Opinion:
Arya Stark is easily one of the two best characters in Game of Thrones, and if Maisie Williams is going to take on the role of Ellie, then I’m very excited. With Neil Druckmann writing the script and Sam Raimi producing, I’ve got high hopes that this will be the first great video game movie. I’m sure I’m not the first person to beat this drum, but I hope that Hugh Jackman will be Joel.
Jesse Webster is a Senior Writer at MONG and still believes that Mortal Kombat is still the best video game movie ever.
