Earlier this week Polygon reported that GOG accidentally released several Linux games for free during it’s Linux promotion.
GOG forum user “yogsloth” pointed out the error in a forum post. Other users confirmed that they also received their games for free and requested for them to be removed from their shelves. Polygon posted a letter that GOG sent to a user who received free games during the glitch:
Hello
Thank you for your honesty. Yesterday, due to a small glitch on our end, you and a bunch of other lucky people ended up getting games from the Linux Launch promo for free. Don’t worry, though, as it’s totally cool with us and you may keep them. Yes, we will not be removing these titles from your account and we do hope you will enjoy them! 🙂
Of course, if you prefer, like some of our community members, we can always remove them your shelf – just let us know replying to this email. Again, there’s no problem if you want to keep them 🙂
Your GOG.com Team
GOG fixed the mistake and the games are currently in promotional pricing until Tuesday.
My Opinion:
I haven’t used GOG before, but after the way they managed the situation they just earned a new customer. They handled the situation very well, and the forum users who asked for the glitched games to be taken off of their accounts are great people. I wish I had been part of this community before.
Dustin LaRoe is an Associate Writer for MONG and is pretty awful at games. If you want proof, watch him on Twitch as Guy105. His Gamertag and Steam ID are Guy 105.
