Dying Light Delivers Zombie Mayhem In Gamescom Trailer

Developer Techland has delivered the latest Dying Light trailer in anticipation of Gamescom 2014.  The gameplay trailer shows off plenty of zombie action while highlighting the features of the game. Everything from the open world (traversed with zip lines and grappling hooks) to the interactive environments (which can be utilized to kill zombies) can be seen in the footage.  Techland is no stranger to dealing with the walking dead as the company is also responsible for the successful Dead Island  franchise.

With Dying Light, they hope to deliver a different experience for players with much more emphasis on movement and avoiding zombie hordes utilizing elements of Parkour.  The game offers a day and night cycle with the most danger for players occurring at night.  Players will have a hard time surviving the night as the final words suggest from the trailer below.

Dying Light arrives for the PS3, PS4, Xbox 360, Xbox One and PC in February 2015.

My Opinion:

Zombie games are certainly nothing new to the gaming world.  From Resident Evil and Dead Rising to Dead Island and Telltale’s The Walking Dead, zombies can be seen in a variety of titles.  Dying Light appears to put a spin on previous games, which is something I can appreciate.  The fast moving action and parkour elements remind me of Mirror’s Edge, which is a good thing.  Releasing Dying Light early next year is a smart move by Techland, allowing them to avoid the major holiday releases and garner more attention during the slower month of February.
