Remedy Entertainment finally released a live gameplay demo of their newest IP. The Max Payne and Alan Wake developers seem to be taking the best of both worlds and create a new IP that takes advantage of the Xbox One’s hardware. Their new game is called Quantum Break.
The story follows a time travel experiment gone horribly wrong, and it’s up to Jack Choice to stop the end of time. The third person shooter takes the gameplay of Max Payne and the cinematic storytelling of Alan Wake. Jack Choice was caught in the experiment and in doing so, he can manipulate time. Jack can stop time in a small area, allowing him to move from cover to cover or perform melee attacks in a split second. Jack can use his power to let a set-piece move forward in time, creating a tactical advantage. For instance, he can take a falling car and let it complete its motion, knocking it into enemies.
Every once and a while, time will completely stop in something called a “time stutter”; during these stutters, everyone but Jack will be frozen in time. Some enemies will have Anti-Stutter gear which will allow them to move around the stopped time as well.
Quantum Break is exclusive to Xbox One and will be released sometime in 2015.
Remedy is one of my favorite developers, and Alan Wake is one of my most favorite games on the Xbox 360. So, I can’t wait for Quantum Break and it was one of the Xbox One games that grabbed me.
