If you’re a fan of titles like Castle Crashers, Alien Hominid, and Battleblock Theater then the term “Behemoth” has a special place in your heart. It might bring you warm fuzzy feelings deep down, along with memories of laughter, fun, and sometimes moments of wanting to snap your controller in half while you’re still enjoying yourself. Get ready to feel all of that again.
The Behemoth has brought us the first trailer of their next title, which is currently nicknamed “Game 4.” You’ve gotta respect their straightforwardness in terms of naming their projects.
If you were a fan of Battleblock Theater, then the trailer will likely seem a bit familiar to you. Not only is Honeyhug (the bear at the end of the game) featured in the trailer, the trailer is also narrated by the absolutely pleasant announcer. Though he sounds darker, a tad bit evil, and possibly (more) insane.
The trailer picks up exactly where Battleblock left off (with the giant green laser beam striking Honeyhug in the head) and tells of a world thrown into chaos post its body crashing into the planet. The announcer narrates the images of a cave painting in the normal Behemoth style. He seems to wonder what the world was like before Honeyhug crashed. However, whereas most of the inhabitants pictured in the cave painting don’t seem to enjoy the full-body flames and destruction of the world, the announce apparently loves the chaos.
The trailer is only a minute long, so there’s no reason not to check it out if the cryptic end of Battleblock left you with questions. It looks like it’s about time to buckle our pants and dance on into the next crazy adventure The Behemoth has in store for us. The trailer’s last dollop of info is that Game 4 will be playable at Pax Prime ‘14 (August 29th).
My Opinion:
I admit that I’m not remotely as excited about Game 4 as I am about Destiny, but I spent SO many hours with Castle Crashers and Battleblock Theater that I can’t help but be a bit giddy about this teaser. No game has made me happier or laugh harder than Battleblock, I absolutely loved the story and I definitely loved the ending. I thought that Honeyhug looked hilariously horrifying (what with its star nipples) and I couldn’t wait to understand what was up with Hatty and why he shot it… also why it was in space and why people had praised it somewhat like a god. I also love the name Honeyhug for whatever reason. Just remember folks, Honeyhug is nigh! If you have no clue what I’m talking about, go pick up Battleblock Theater, it’s just good fun and has some of the most charming aesthetics I’ve seen in a while.
