Sony Announces 2014 Tokyo Game Show Lineup

Sony has announced the games that will be present during the 2014 Tokyo Game Show later this month.

It looks like Sony is finally ready to set the PlayStation 3 aside, as the list mostly features PlayStation 4 and Vita titles. This comes as no surprise as we near the one-year anniversary of the launch of the PS4 (Say what now?). The line-up consists of 40 titles, all of which will be playable on the show floor.

PlayStation 3

PlayStation 4

PS Vita

  • Airship Q (Cygames).
  • Chaos Rings III: Prequel Trilogy (Square Enix).
  • Deadman’s Cross (Square Enix).
  • Deemo: Last Rehearsal (Rayark).
  • Dengeki Bunko Fighting Climax (Sega).
  • God Eater 2: Rage Burst (Bandai Namco).
  • Gundam Breaker 2 (Bandai Namco).
  • Jikkyou Powerful Pro Yakyuu 2014 (Konami).
  • The Legend of Heroes: Sen no Kiseki II (Falcom).
  • Minecraft: PlayStation Vita Edition (Mojang).
  • Murasaki Baby (Sony Computer Entertainment).
  • OlliOlli (Roll7).
  • Phantasy Star Nova (Sega).
  • TorqueL (Playism).
  • Samurai Warriors Chronicles 3 (Koei Tecmo).

Keep in mind, this list does not include any surprise unannounced titles that Sony may wish to reveal during the show itself. In addition, Sony is inviting attendees to test out Project Morpheus, their virtual reality headset currently in development. Attendees will also be able to utilize TGS Navi, an addition to the official Playstation App that will allow users to view the stage event schedule, booth map, and specific booth information.

Tokyo Game Show 2014 runs from September 18th-21st.

My Opinion:

I am excited to see the sheer number of titles that will be exhibited at TGS 2014. The apparent focus on PS4 is encouraging as it seemingly shows a shift in development focus away from last-gen. This shift has appeared gradual to many consumers looking for games to play on their “next-gen” consoles. I’m also optimistic about the number of Vita titles that will be shown. The longevity of the Vita in the U.S. at least partially depends on the development of its Japanese titles, and the line-up looks promising.
