Fatal Frame Puts Wii U GamePad To Use In New Trailer

Fatal Frame V or (Zero: Tsukihami no Kamen as it is known in Japan ) is set to launch on September 27th.  As of now, the fifth entry of the survival horror title has no plans to release in other countries. However, Nintendo released a new video for the Wii U exclusive game showcasing its implementation of the GamePad.  In the video the female protagonist, Yuri Kozukata, wanders through creepy environments with the GamePad functioning as the Camera Obscura.

The story follows Yuri, who possesses special powers that allow her to see spirits/ghosts and bring them back from the other realm.  Players will control Yuri as she treks through the Hikayama mountains searching for missing cafe owner, Hisoka Kurosawa.

In the new trailer, developer Koei Tecmo shows how the GamePad can be used to scan environments and fight off ghosts by capturing them with your lens.  To see how it functions, watch the trailer below.

My Opinion:

It’s a bummer that this new Fatal Frame game doesn’t have plans for a release outside of Japan.  The Wii U could use as many different titles as possible, and Fatal Frame is the type of “mature” game that critics of Nintendo say never appear on their consoles.  Furthermore, it looks to make interesting use of the GamePad, which is the most unique component of the system.  Forcing players to use the GamePad as the camera would seem to add an extra layer of immersion which is perfect for a horror game like Fatal Frame.
