Project Morpheus Could Be Out Soon

Project Morpheus, Sony’s virtual reality headset, may be available sooner than you would expect.

Sony executive, Shuhei Yoshida, revealed to the Wall Street Journal that Project Morpheus is about 85% complete.  Sony’s headset was announced last year and is one of the few competitors to the Oculus Rift.

The headset comes equipped with surround sound and a sensor that allows the user to view the virtual world around them simply by turning his or her head.

Unlike the Oculus Rift, Yoshida wants gamers to be the target audience for Project Morpheus. Yoshida continued to say that “light-hearted” experiences aren’t out of the question either, such as virtual travel and education.

Sony has not revealed a price or release window for Project Morpheus.

My Opinion:

Project Morpheus and Oculus Rift feel as though they have come straight out of a science fiction novel, so it is still hard for me to believe that this kind of technology is just around the corner.  That being said, I couldn’t be more excited for this.  I just hope Sony has the software to support a machine like this.
