As of today, Amazon has successfully acquired Twitch Interactive.
The deal, which became official yesterday, completed the almost $1 billion deal that was announced late last month.
Twitch CEO Emmett Shear said the following about the long term success of this deal:
We will be able to create tools and services faster than we could have independently …. This change will mean great things for our community, and will let us bring Twitch to even more people around the world… We’re keeping most everything the same: our office, our employees, our brand, and most importantly our independence. But with Amazon’s support we’ll have the resources to bring you an even better Twitch.
My Opinion:
I’m a bit surprised as to how quick this acquisition was completed. Usually, things like this take a while to complete with all the legal mumbo-jumbo. Regardless, I’m happy that Twitch wants to remain the way it is, and with the added support from Amazon, can grow and be better than ever.
