In the very near future, there will be a subscription plan option for Sony’s PlayStation Now service.

Starting January 13th, for PlayStation 4 users only, players will have the option to subscribe to the game streaming service. The subscription service gives you instant access to 100+ games in the PlayStation 3 library. You don’t have to download or install anything, the game is streamed to your console. Of course, for those who don’t have the fastest internet, latency may be an issue so you may want to test out the service before taking the plunge. Luckily for new subscribers, you can download the app on PS4 and start a 7-day trial to see how well it works for you.

The subscription service is being offered in two price models: $14.99/month or $44.99 for a 3-month package.

The subscription plan is for North America only, starting January 13th. MONG will update when the service becomes more widely available.

My Opinion:

When I first learned of PlayStation Now, the subscription plan felt like the only thing that made sense and would make the service successful. My PlayStation 3 recently suffered the terrible fate of the Yellow Light of Death, so having an option to play some of the games on my backlog via PlayStation Now is great. Personally, my internet is connected via Wi-Fi, so I don’t think my internet speeds would be fast enough for the service to work for me but it’s definitely something I will look into.

From a price standpoint, I still think the service is a little on the expensive side, although it is a comparable dollar amount to a service like Gamefly. But it makes sense seeing as Sony invested a lot to acquire Gaikai, the streaming company who helped build the infrastructure that makes PlayStation Now function. $380 million, to be specific.
