One Dragon Age: Inquisition fan recently did a little bit of digging to discover hidden audio in the game. The subject of the resulting video has rather large implications for Dragon Age lore.
Warning: there are some SIGNIFICANT SPOILERS ahead.
Reddit user sashimi_taco, a.k.a. Geek Remix on YouTube, posted a reversed clip (shown below) of the Inquisitor at the end of the Temple of Mythal quest line. The scene only appears if the Inquisitor makes a certain choice, and contains a lot of “unintelligible whispers” that, when played backward, seem to make a little more sense.
What’s most notable here is the phrase “Mythal speaks the Calling.” The Calling is a reference to what Grey Wardens endure near the end of their lives and is supposed to be similar to the Archdemon’s (tainted Old Gods’) call to draw darkspawn. The Calling is always used in relation to the Old Gods, but this line implies that one god from the Elven pantheon may have a connection to it as well.
Is this a hint at some crossover between Elven and Ancient Tevinter worship? What does this mean for the final scene of the game? Will it come into play in the next game or DLC? These hard-earned clues just make us want to ask more questions.
My Opinion:
By far, my favorite aspect of Dragon Age: Inquisition was how much light BioWare shed on elven history and lore. Playing as an Elf, I was really intrigued by how much my race really complimented much of the plot and the decisions I made. Dragon Age has always been more about the world and how you craft it than the individual story or character arcs of each game. This easter egg is a nice reminder of how deep and mysterious Thedas’ past really is, and how it can still hold consequences for its future.
