Spiritual Successor to Wipeout on Steam Greenlight

Sony’s high-speed racing series Wipeout may be dead, but it’s not forgotten – not if new studio R8 Games has anything to say about it.

Formed by developers from the now-defunct SCE Studio Liverpool, R8 Games has put their first project on Steam Greenlight: Formula Fusion, a spiritual successor to the Wipeout series. Not only is it being created by former Wipeout developers, but it will also feature graphic design from The Designers Republic, the studio that gave Wipeout its distinctive look.

R8 Games is promising 22 tracks, 10 racing teams, and potentially even VR integration for Formula Fusion. For more information (or to support the game), head on over to their Steam Greenlight page or R8 Games’ website.

My Opinion:

Wow, am I ever looking forward to this. As a big fan of Wipeout, I was really sad to see Studio Liverpool close down. It’s great to see the series has a future, even if it’s not technically Wipeout anymore. It was a brilliant move to tap The Designers Republic for graphic design and branding; together, I’m confident that the two studios will be able to recapture the magic that made Wipeout so memorable. Best of luck to the R8 Games team!
