Rumors were circulating on the internet that gold and silver editions of  Mario amiibo figures were coming. Nintendo has finally confirmed that the rumors were partially true.

On March 20th, the Gold Mario Amiibo will be available exclusively at Walmart. It will retail for the usual $12.99 Amiibo price tag and will be available at over 3,000 stores in the U.S.

The special edition amiibo releases alongside Mario Party 10, which also has its own set of figures. The set, which is called the Super Mario series features new versions of Mario, Luigi, Peach, Bowser and Yoshi, along with the aforementioned Gold Mario and Toad, who is new to the amiibo family. The set also is available on March 20th.

The Gold Edition Mario amiibo will be compatible with all games that feature amiibo support.

My Opinion:

I personally have not fallen down the amiibo rabbit hole, as I only own amiibo figures for Mario and Luigi. I am interested in some of my other favorite characters, like Zelda and Samus but it’s too pricey of a venture for me to go down.

I love how this Gold Edition Mario amiibo looks but I don’t see myself getting it. On the other hand, the rest of the Super Mario series set looks neat and I will definitely be picking up Toad for the neat gameplay feature that it adds to Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker.

It also nice to have an amiibo version of Luigi who isn’t creepily leaning over.
