How does one stand out amongst the crowded mobile game landscape? Hire Kate Upton. The buxom-beauty has paid dividends for mobile game developer Machine Zone, according to the LA Times. Kate Upton has been featured in a series of TV commercials for Game of War: Fire Age. Since the month of November, the ads have ran over 9,000 times with the air-time price estimated at $80 million. Seems like a steep price to pay, but it has been well worth it.
Not only have the ubiquitous ads given the mobile game recognition on a mass level, they have contributed to sales of in-game purchases doubling since the ads began running. The free-to-play game now generates $1 million a day in revenue from in-game purchases. The commercials, cleverly chosen to air during male skewing programming, have breathed new life into a series originally released back in 2013.

My Opinion:
I am someone who has very little interest in mobile gaming and currently have no games on my smartphone. Yet, even I am aware of this game. I have seen the ads numerous times and while the allure of Kate Upton hasn’t gotten me to try Game of War: Fire Age, apparently it has worked for a lot of other people. With the success of the ads, I’m surprised I don’t see more commercials for mobile games to captivate an audience.
