Soon after its reveal during the last Nintendo Direct, amiibo: Touch & Play is finally rolling out in Europe.
According to a recent tweet by Nintendo, the bite size sampling of Virtual Console titles will be released on April 30th. Amiibo Tap: Nintendo’s Greatest Bits, the North American rebranding of the feature, has yet to be assigned a release date.

The free download will add yet another feature to the ever growing list of what amiibo can do. Touch & Play will allow users to unlock three minute trials of retro NES and SNES games by tapping their figures to the Wii U gamepad. The company also clarified that the game samples will not be restricted to the software the respective amiibo represents.
Touch & Play will precursor the next wave of amiibo being released in late May, and judging by their availability in stores, it doesn’t seem like Nintendo will ease up on the amiibo updates anytime soon.
My Opinion:
Most veteran video game players won’t see the utility in this type of release because the library being offered is mostly of games they have played tirelessly. Less experienced players, however, will be exposed to loads of titles that may have been passed upon because they are graphically outmatched by next generation games. Personally, I wish marketing tactics like this would utilized on arcade titles that I missed out on as a younger gamer.
