After much debate, flying will return to World of Warcraft in the upcoming patch 6.2.
World of Warcraft’s next patch will also feature a brand new zone; the Tanaan Jungle, a new raid, Hellfire Citadel, and the return of old dungeons with Timewalking.
Tanaan Jungle will be a new level 100 zone in Draenor. Access to Tanaan Jungle will be granted after creating a Shipyard in your Garrison. The story will continue into the new zone via chapter-based quests.
Located within Tanaan Jungle is the new Hellfire Citadel raid. It will feature 13 new bosses and offer 700+ loot as well as continue the Legendary Questline for the ilvl 735 ring reward.
Timewalking will bring back the challenge of old content with scaled versions of dungeons from Burning Crusade and Wrath of the Lich King. Burning Crusade content will begin at level 71 and Wrath of the Lich King content will begin at level 81. The dungeons will be available for three-day-long weekend holidays. Current Timewalking in the Public Test Realm include:
- The Arcatraz
- Black Morass
- Mana-Tombs
- The Shattered Halls
- The Slave Pens
- Ahn’kahet: The Old Kingdom
- Gundrak
- Halls of Lightning
- The Nexus
- Utgarde Pinnacle
Possibly most exciting to players is the return of flying. Although players can fly in any of the previous expansions, the addition of flying to new content has been debated thoroughly. Due to aspects of the expansion such as treasures scattered throughout the map, developers have felt that the return of flying would ruin much of what makes Draenor so enjoyable. The final decision to reimplement flying came as a response to fan’s sadness over their well-earned flying mounts. Many players spent countless hours running raids and dungeons hoping for the rare mounts within to drop. Many saw the mount drop only to lose it to another player. Earning these mounts is a huge victory for some and thus the decision to return flying was made.
My Opinion:
Having recently picked up the Violet Proto-Drake (School of Hard Knocks was the killer) and Pureblood Fire Hawk, I am among those who are saddened to think that flying mounts would be forced to chicken waddle throughout Draenor. Although there are many lovely Draenor land mounts, such as the Breezestrider, it is very appealing to see flying mounts returned. I agree with the uneasiness that comes with flying (ruining much of the new jumping puzzles added with Draenor) however Blizzard made the right choice.
