Twitch Comes to Mobile Devices

Twitch recently announced that its service will now be be available on mobile devices, allowing gamers to stream and record mobile games.

Twitch released the Twitch Mobile Software Development Kit, which allows mobile developers to have the same tools that developers of larger games on consoles and PC have. These tools include video and audio capture from a front-facing camera and a microphone, respectively, the ability to toggle broadcast quality, various chat options, and, most importantly, the ability to capture, archive, and broadcast gameplay video and audio.

Matthew DiPietro, VP of marketing for Twitch said via the official press release, “We’ve achieved that with our PC and console integrations, so the trifecta will soon be complete with our deep and concerted foray into mobile broadcasting.”

My Opinion

Well, here we go. Twitch streaming mobile games will be great, especially for the larger puzzle based games or the rage-inducers, like the recent craze Flappy Bird. Having all the tools that the big boys have just proves that mobile gaming is as important as console and PC gaming. Having Twitch players use their cameras and microphones as well as chat will get even more people using the service, like what the PS4 did for console gamers. How ROMs will be monitored will be interesting to see, and this will most definitely increase the amount of iPhones being sold. Let the Candy Crush streams begin.

  1. Interesting. It’s definitely a worthy platform and I’d be interesting to see the kinds of streams that come out of it.
