Pikachu Named Japan’s 2014 FIFA World Cup Mascot

The Pokémon Company and Adidas have announced that Pikachu is going to be the official mascot for Japan in the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil.

Pikachu will be accompanied by Meowth, Bulbasaur, Charmander, Squirtle, Chespin, Froakie, Fennekin, Pancham, Helioptile, and Litleo.  (See the awesome picture of their huddle)

The 2014 FIFA World Cup begins on June 12.

My Opinion:

This is an interesting move because of Pokémon’s international appeal.  I am not a “soccer” fan, so I wouldn’t pay attention to the World Cup anyways, but I can see how this may turn some people on to the idea, at least for a game.
