Amy Hennig Joins Star Wars

Former Uncharted writer Amy Hennig has joined EA’s Visceral Studios to work on their future Star Wars games.

In a post on EA’s blog, Vice President and General Manager of Visceral Games Steve Papoutsis said “I couldn’t be more excited to welcome Amy Hennig to our team at Visceral Games and EA as Creative Director on our Star Wars project….I’ve always admired her approach to creative development – focusing on nailing down the soul of a game first, and then making sure the writing, the gameplay, the design and the art comes together to form a unified, interactive experience for the player.  This fits in perfectly with what we’re trying to do here at Visceral and Amy’s going to help us continue in our pursuit to make the most thrilling, immersive games in the world.”

Papoutsis went on to say that it was the idea of a Star Wars game that inspired Hennig. “Amy’s a huge fan. We happen to be making a Star Wars game. Just thinking about the possibilities made both of us even more excited about having her join the team.”

Hennig announced her job on her twitter, even reminiscing about her love of Star Wars.

As people may remember Hennig left Naughty Dog under questionable circumstances last month, allowing The Last of Us creative director Neil Druckmann and Bruce Straley to take over the development of the fourth Uncharted game.

My Opinion

While it may seem that Amy Hennig has joined the dark side, this is almost nothing but positive news for the future of the Star Wars licence. Come on, she made the best Indiana Jones since his third movie. If anyone can imitate the action, adventure, and the lore of George Lucas’s Star Wars saga, it would be Hennig. She has the Force on her side.
