After a tease earlier today, Sony Online Entertainment revealed H1Z1, a new MMO focusing on community building and zombies.
Sony Online Entertainment, the minds behind games like PlanetSide 2, Everquest and DC Universe Online, announced the game, saying that they hoped H1Z1 will be put above the rest.
The game will have multiple servers to house thousands of players, complete with an in-game economy, structures, a day-night cycle and more. The president of SOE, John Smedley, said “Over time we will grow the world until we have our own version of the U.S. after the death and destruction brought on during the H1Z1 epidemic. It will be our own version of America. We’ll have urban cities and desolate wide open places. All connected seamlessly.”
Smedley also said “Our focus is building a sandbox style of gameplay where players can build shelters out of resources in the world. They can even work together to make amazing fortresses complete with weaponry to help defend against both the Infected and other players.”
H1Z1 is said to have a sound trading system and and the ability to form gangs and governments like any normal society. No release date was announced, but anyone with questions can visit the H1Z1 subreddit.
I am not usually the one that is into games like this, but with the popularity of games like Rust, I can definitely see this game take off, although it is difficult to predict what it will be like without any screenshots. All I wish is that the zombies are scary and the people are ruthless.
