The Geekend Update: 4/25/14

Weekends are meant to be used strictly for gaming; at least that’s what we think anyways.  So here is where you can find out all of our crazy plans for the upcoming weekend!  Are you playing any of the games we are? _______________________________________________________________________________

Courtney Osborn, Founder & Editor in Chief:

Well, I just finished Final Fantasy X HD finally. So I plan to work on my review this weekend for that, expect it up sometime early next week.  I just bought Danganronpa and Conception II for my PS Vita, and plan to play those over the weekend.  I started Danganronpa last week and man that is a weird game. lol.  I also plan on picking up Octodad this weekend and will be livestreaming it on Twitch.  So check in if you wanna watch the hilarity ensue.

Lou Contaldi, Senior Editor:

Law school exams, law school exams, law school exams. I am so busy with finals, I am majorly curtailing my video game time (as well as my writing, if you’ve noticed). But I’m going to undoubtedly need to kick back between study sessions!

Expect to see me on Blacklight: Retribution on the PlayStation 4 for a few pick-me-up games. I normally play until the game boots me off (in other words, half a deathmatch game). Besides that, I’m going to be working on this week’s inFAMOUS Paper Trail episode, and possibly spending some money on games I can’t play until summer (NES Remix 2 and Mario Golf: World Tour).

If you are looking to laugh at my embarrassing kill to death ratio on Blacklight or need a friend for Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn, make sure to friend me on PSN @KingLouieTrip. Otherwise, I’ll be on Nintendo Network @KingLouie

Chad Waller, Editor:

The bulk of my weekend is going to be pretty normal: Halo 4 multiplayer–while drunk of course–and a bit of Earth Defense Force. Might finish EDF. I recently picked up the Beat Hazard DLC and I plan on giving that a good few hours as well. I’m pretty stoked to try it out.

I also plan on reading King Lear because you can’t go wrong with Shakespeare and I need something to read.

Shawn Richards, Editor:

I will be going down retro lane this weekend. Enjoying some old PS1 games (yes, ON my PS1) and SNES games (again, ON my SNES) so that I can take myself back and see just how good/bad I am on some of the older games. Also, I will be playing some Towerfall: Ascension if anyone wants to join me and play a few games. If you want to follow me on Twitter to see some of my antics or add me on PSN to see my meager trophy list, my username for both is LittleBigHamm.

I will also be working on my undergraduate thesis and watching Smallville in an attempt to finish both by the end of this school semester. I mean, it beats Shakespeare.

Mark Merville, PC Editor:

What gaming I do get in this weekend will most likely be dedicated to some of my old favorites.  I’ve been feeling very nostalgic lately, and will be increasing my wealth and decorating my house on the UO Forever free-shard.  Along with the usual Path of Exile grindage, I also plan to check out the update to Terraria which apparently added hours of new content.

Brett Medlock, Editor:

I’m going down to South Park to have myself a time! So I finally got around to picking up South Park The Stick of Truth, and I love it! There is so much fan service in this game, every second there is another hilarious throwback to the show. It honestly feels like you’re living in South Park. As fan of the show since the beginning, I can tell I’m going to sink a ton of hours into this game. If you want to know what I’m up to and what I’m playing, head on over to twitter and follow me @brettnll

Having completed a bunch of games recently; South Park: The Stick of Truth (Fantastic), Trials Fusion (Pretty Good), and Batman: Arkham Origins (Hilariously Flawed); I think I’ll be taking it easy the weekend on the gaming front by playing some old favorites. Don’t be surprised if you see me plugging along on Persona 3 FES, Batman: Arkham Asylum, or even Final Fantasy VIII. Though, if you are feeling extra feisty, you’re welcome to attempt to take on my impressive times on Trials Fusion. (Though if we’re being honest, “impressive” is such a relative term.)

Brendan Jester, Editor:

Now that i will be apart from my Skyrim and Halo games, I will most likely be just goofing around in Dragon Age: Origins this weekend. What I’m most excited about is starting Borderlands 2, a game that I’ve probably been putting off playing for far too long. On top of that I will try to complete Mass Effect 2 so I can finish off the three current games in that series!

Chad Patrick, Editor:

Missing in action….

Steven Shearer, Editor:

Sadly, for me this seems like a weekend which I will not be gaming much. However, if I do get to game, it will most likely be a few games of Fifa 14, or attempting to finish Freedom Cry DLC for Assassin’s Creed IV. I may also try to learn how to speed run Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas or Vice City, on PC but that will take more than a weekend!

Ryan Latuso, Editor:

Playing Metal Gear Solid for the first time got me on a stealth espionage kick so I am working on Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow for the first time. I hope to finish by Tuesday so I can play Child of Light when it releases. In between games I am also playing Evoland and have recently discovered the addicting Super Stardust HD.

Dustin LaRoe, Editor:

This weekend I will be mostly installing flooring. I’m finishing the remodel of my house. But whenever I take a break, I’ll likely be on Trials Fusion on the Xbox One. I just completed the Early Bird Achievement, so I’m at 50% on the game. My Gamertag is Guy 105 if you want to humiliate me by beating all of my times on each stage by minutes.

Benjamin Luthi, Editor:

Whether or not it’s warm this weekend is irrelevant since I will be enjoying the pixelated sunshine of Rusty’s Real Deal Baseball. I will also attempt to conquer the future with a motorcycle in Trials Fusion. And when all of that inevitably fails, I will be getting the ever-loving crap kicked out of me in DayZ. Should be a good weekend.

Mike Morrissette, Editor:

A terrible thing happened to me the other day; I began to play Hearthstone. I can safely say that I’m addicted, which is a problem because I have such a back-log of games to play on my PS3 that I was hoping to punch out this weekend. But, alas, my soul once again belongs to Blizzard, and their addictive games.
