The Geekend Update: 5/9/14

Weekends are meant to be used strictly for gaming; at least that’s what we think anyways.  So here is where you can find out all of our crazy plans for the upcoming weekend!  Are you playing any of the games we are?

Courtney Osborn, Founder & Editor in Chief:

My plans? Sleep. Study. Sleep some more.

For real though, next week is Finals Week here at The University of Kansas.  BLAH.  When I am able to drag myself out of bed I will probably be doing some trophy hunting on Bound by Flame and streaming the new Outlast DLC.

So, as per usual on the weekends now, I will be working most of it again. However, I will dipping my foot into the waters of JRPGs and maybe play Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD or I will keep it simple and play some Stick it to the Man. This game, which is about a guy with a noodle sticking out of his head, will perfectly illustrate my frustration leading up to finals and thesis.

I will be streaming for sure, maybe with Courtney. I may play some Killzone or, if I am able to swallow my gamer pride, Call of Duty. If you want to know more, find me at LittleBigHamm on everything.

Mark Merville, PC Editor:

This weekend I will be participating in Path of Exile’s first charity race event.  All proceeds from microtransactions during this two-week long event will go directly to the Child’s Play charity.  I’d like to say I’m doing it specifically for the benefit of the charity, but it turns out they are giving away some pretty decent swag in a raffle to the players that reach at least level 35.  If you are interested, you can get more details here.  In addition to my benevolent activities in Path of Exile, I will also be participating in Wildstar’s 10-day open beta event.  Expect to hear my opinion of Wildstar some time next week.

Brett Medlock, Editor:

I spent this week jumping back into Animal Crossing: New Leaf (goodbye life) with my fiancée. Aside from that I’m still slowly making my way through South Park (which I’m loving). Mario Kart 8 is getting close so I’m super stoked to play that. (and finally Wind Waker HD (which I get for free!)) <— Parenthesis inside of parenthesis. Not much else is new over here!
Anyway,

I finally got to complete Freedom Cry last weekend so now I’m going to try and complete Dead Rising 3!

Ryan Latuso, Editor:

I’m moving houses on Monday and all my systems are packed up so probably nothing. If I do get the chance then I will play the Bravely Default demo on 3DS.

Dustin LaRoe, Editor:

I finally am at the end of the remodel of my house, so I will sit down and get to work on

Mario Golf. Also, I’m going to be on Trials Fusion this weekend. Look me up at Guy105 on Twitch and see if I can get through the extreme tracks before I hit 500 faults. (Spoiler Alert: Nope.)

Benjamin Luthi, Editor:

After blazing through Kirby Triple Deluxe and Mario Golf World Tour this week, I’ll be going back to NES Remix 2. Plus, I think I’ll download the Game Boy Mega Man games on my 3DS. Maybe make some levels on Trials Fusion. Hopefully it rains so I won’t have to do yard work.

Myles Farrington, Editor:

Still relaxin’, still broke, and still gonna just be hanging out. Going where the wind blows in terms of plans. The job market is a cruel mistress so this humble editor is still gonna be laying low for the most part. Plus, I’ve got YouTube videos to catch up on and Twitch streams to watch. However, I’ll still be popping into Warframe from time to time. Eventually I’ll have games to mention here. Oh, by the way, Mother’s Day is this weekend (Sunday) folks. So if you forgot then you might wanna jump on that.

Colin Conroy, Editor:

My finals are finally over, and I’m done with school (until the fall)! Sounds like a good weekend for gaming right? I thought so too, but I’ll be away from home until late Sunday night, so no gaming for me this weekend. Hopefully I’ll have something a little more exciting to put here next weekend. Feel free to add me on PSN and Steam at Saratoga77 to do some gaming next week.

Aaron Dobbe, Editor:

Nothing special happening this weekend, so I’m gonna try and get some more gaming time in. I started on Conception II and Mario Golf: World Tour this past week, so I’ll probably continue working through those. I also ended up buying Dead or Alive 5 Ultimate on PS3 because it was on sale (and it’s been a while since I played vanilla DoA5), so I may get into that as well. Feel free to add me on PSN at Eclns or on Nintendo Network at Lavos5!

Audrey Lips, Editor:

What better way to procrastinate for finals than Oblivion? I’ve played Skyrim and I’ve played Elder Scrolls Online so I figured, “Hey, why not work backwards?” So far, I’ve been killed by random trolls that my level 10 Bosmer archer is completely unequipped for while traveling through the vast Wilderness (feels like Runescape…).

Aside from countless hours of shooting arrows, I will not be doing much as Saturday I’m moving out of my apartment and Sunday is Mother’s Day. So, a very Happy Mother’s Day to everyone’s moms out there!

Mike Morrissette, Editor:

Instead of Mother’s Day, my mother demands an entire weekend. So tomorrow I’ll be heading home to pretend to like my mother’s cooking, and to force myself to laugh as we play a third riveting round of Apples to Apples. Luckily, I’ll have my Vita with me, so I’m hoping to finally play through Golden Abyss. I was supposed to start the new end game dungeon in FFXIV this weekend, but instead I’ll have to sleep in a bed that I’ve outgrown, and attempt to avoid questions such as “Why don’t you have a significant other yet?” or “All your friends are graduating, why aren’t you?” I’m super not excited.

Follow me @boredincollege as I live tweet all the fun that will surely not ensue.

Jess Guilbeaux, Editor:

My weekend won’t (actually it CAN’T) involve too much gaming. I have finals next week and I have to do well. Luckily I only have two finals, but my first and hardest one is on Monday. I promise my next weekend will be more interesting and full of games. If I play anything it will be South Park: TSOT, but I make no promises.

That’s it for all of us!  What will YOU be playing this weekend?
