“OPTIMIZED” FINAL FANTASY III COMING TO STEAM

Square Enix announced earlier this week that a PC-optimized version of Final Fantasy III will be coming to Steam soon.

While the publisher did not specify a release date or price, the game’s product page is currently live on Steam. The Steam version will feature several upgrades, including improved 3D visuals and story sequences and quicker bestiary browsing. Additionally, the game will also support Steam features like Achievements, Trading Cards, and full controller support.

Originally released in Japan for the Famicom in 1990 and re-released on the Nintendo DS in 2006, Final Fantasy III introduced the job-change system to the franchise, which would become a staple in subsequent games. This announcement continues the trend of remastering classic games in order to introduce them to a new generation of gamers.

Final Fantasy III is also available via the PlayStationNetwork, the Wii and Wii U virtual consoles, and iOS and Android gaming platforms.

My Opinion

My own experience with Final Fantasy is rather limited, mostly restricted to the FFXIII trilogy. However, I’m starting to get more into JRPGs, and am a big fan of the push to re-release older games on contemporary platforms. For me, the movement gives me a chance to play games I missed out on, like Kingdom Hearts or the older Metal Gear titles, and has enabled me to introduce my kid brother to the glory that is Ocarina of Time. Basically, if there’s an HD remake of any good game, you can bet I’ll be eager to pick it up. This is no exception.
