It is Wednesday again! That mean’s it is time for this week’s Editor Spotlight! This time our editor is Brendan Jester! So check out his Top 5 Games here! Do you agree with any of them?
Number 5: (Assassin’s Creed II)
This game was both one of my first Xbox games and also my introduction into the Assassin’s Creed franchise. Needless to say, I fell in love with the game almost immediately. Both the battle mechanics and story made the game extremely captivating and addicting. Though I haven’t gotten as much replay value out of this game as the others even in the same franchise, I will always revere this game for introducing me to such a well-made game franchise.
Number 4: (Fable 2)
I could spend literally minutes talking about Fable. This was a great look into a more cartoonish RPG that still could take on a more serious visage. What was really cool about it is that you weren’t dedicated to one class of combat that you decided the minute you started playing. You could switch and focus on the form of combat you used almost instantaneously. Not only that but even though it’s the second game in the series, the story is not dependent on the first game at all, which makes it a very focused story.
Number 3: (Skyrim)
Skyrim, though the story may not have been entirely as enjoyable as some of my other favorites, has more replay value than almost any game that I have experienced. The hundreds of side quests and bonus locations add days of gameplay to the game that many RPG’s cannot compare to. The fun you can have crafting a weapon and immediately using it to crack open a dragon’s skull is more fun than it should be. The battle system as well as the expansive world of Tamriel make this one of the most enjoyable games to play.
Number 2: (Assassin’s Creed: Revelations)
Of all the game series that I have played, Assassin’s Creed is probably the one that has most made me desire more. While some of the other podcast members (shut up, Courtney) believe AC: Revelations to be a weaker game in a solid series, I believe it to be the best. The battle system has not changed from 2, but you have the Assassin Trainees from Brotherhood to lend a helping hand. On top of that you get new tools and bombs to help in your battling. This pales in comparison to the story. Ezio has been building up his resume from the very beginning, and here we see the payoff. This game’s story is probably the most rewarding story that i have ever seen in a video game, and for that, I will always like it.
Number 1: (Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time)
I may have spent more time in Ocarina of Time just running around hitting chickens than I have spent playing any other video game. Going back to the game over and over never gets boring, except maybe the weird zombie version of Hyrule. The puzzles are challenging as a first-time player and even beating many of the temples as a whole takes time and effort that you don’t see in many of the battle-driven games.
I may be biased because of the huge amount of nostalgia I feel whenever I play this game. I feel the same wonder when I play the game now that I did when I was too little to play the shadow temple without soiling myself. Even though it might not be a legitimate quality of a game, the nostalgia of the game makes it my absolute favorite game.
