A display of a 3DS game titled Mario Maker was leaked earlier today on Nintendo Enthusiast.
This image shows what is described as Nintendo’s show floor at E3. Of note is a display with the words “Mario Maker” along with neighboring displays of the villager from Animal Crossing and Pikachu. In the artwork on the display, a hand holding a stylus appears to be manipulating elements from a NES style Super Mario Bros. level.
If this is a new game, then it would presumably be announced in the 2014 E3 Nintendo Direct.
Update: The game was indeed revealed at E3. It seems that it is not for the 3DS, but it is for the Wii U. Also, you can display your created level in both 8-bit and HD graphics. Here’s the trailer:
My Opinion:
I think it seems legitimate. Even though the elements in the photo are not hard to fake, I can’t imagine why anyone would go through that effort to convince people that a game like this is real. It doesn’t seem worth the hassle for a forgery.
If this game is real, I speculate that it will be in the same vein as a game like Mario Paint on the Super Nintendo. Only in this game, you are arranging sprites and background tiles of a Mario game into new experiences. It seems like it could be fun.
Dustin LaRoe is pretty awful at games. If you want proof, watch him Twitch as Guy105. His Gamertag and Steam ID are Guy 105.
