Shape Up, Look Smart

Today Ubisoft revealed one of their more surprising titles, Shape Up. Ubisoft seems to have gotten their hands on the Kinect and decided that it’s about time for us gamers to physically shape up. The French developers over at Ubisoft seem to think that everyone needs to lose some weight, at least they’re giving us an entertaining way to do it.

Shape Up puts an interesting spin on the normal, boring, fitness game. They do this by really pumping up the visuals on screen with loud colors and nonsensical action. For example, during the Ubisoft press conference they brought out two of the employees from Ubisoft and had them face off against one another in a push-up competition.

Of course out of the game it was just two guys doing as many push-ups as they could. However, on screen the game counted how many push-ups were done and the more they could pump out the larger of a “weight” that was put on their backs on screen. Eventually they ended up with tanks on their backs and it ended with huge donuts.

The game also puts a focus on multiplayer. You can upload recordings of your friends, or yourself, to compete against on screen as well as the local co-op. If you’ve been looking for a fitness game that actually sounds enjoyable, Shape Up will be dropping Holiday 2014.

My Opinion:

I think that Shape Up actually does look enjoyable. I will likely not be playing it due to the fact that I prefer to work out in other manners, but it actually looks like Ubisoft is working their magic. They have successfully made the fitness genre into something that’s ridiculous, mad, and fun. All of that and it still looks like the game will indeed give you one hell of a workout.
