Hyrule Warriors, the upcoming Wii U mashup of The Legend of Zelda and Dynasty Warriors, has been given a release date as well as some additional details on playable characters and game mechanics.
This news comes from this morning’s Nintendo E3 Digital Event. The game’s release is currently set for September 26th in America. Two new playable characters have been confirmed: Midna, from Twilight Princess, and Princess Zelda herself. They join the two playable characters we already knew about: series protagonist Link and recurring character Impa.
In addition, the video laid out a couple of interesting gameplay details. Multiple battles will be occurring on any given map, involving more than one hero at the same time. The other characters are CPU-controlled, but may ask your character for assistance, a la Star Fox. Additionally, large enemy boss monsters will occasionally appear on the field. Just like the dungeon bosses from the Zelda series, the player will have to puzzle out how to defeat the boss before ultimately taking it down.
Hyrule Warriors is confirmed to feature two-player cooperative gameplay. In co-op mode, one player will use the full TV screen, while the other will use the GamePad screen.

In addition, Nintendo Official Magazine has provided a European release date of September 19th, plus some screenshots of the new characters in action, below:
Hyrule Warriors will arrive in stores and on the Wii U eShop on September 26th.
Every time I see new footage of this game I get more excited. It continues to look fantastic, the new characters look awesome and unique (Midna especially), and man does the combat look fun. The September release date is great to see among all the “2015” we got from the rest of the video, too. Looking forward to picking this one up in a few months!
