Once I had my fill of the Tower (read: spent all of my money on gear) I headed back out. In my excitement I decided to jump into The Devils’ Lair strike mission which was made available by beating the first mission. The Devils’ Lair was a mission to infiltrate a Fallen stronghold and take down the big bad enemy hidden within. I queued up for it alone, and was (lucky) tossed into the instance with two other players. That was my first experience playing in a fireteam.

Even with the fireteam, I quickly learned that I shouldn’t have been there, and neither should the other two folks. The strike was meant for level 6 characters, and as level 4 fledgling Guardians, we died… a lot. Between the wave defense portion of the mission where a Ghost was hacking a laser field, to the Devil Tank we had to destroy, we died about thirty-something times. Thank god for checkpoints as every time we wiped we were sent back to the last one.

By the time the Devil Tank blew, I’m sure we were all thanking our lucky stars to be done. Of course we weren’t. From there, a door opened and we were introduced to the actual boss, a giant, purple, eye-like robot who went by the name of Sepiks Prime. He likes long walks on the beach and blowing holes in you with bolts of purple energy. Though this fight went swimmingly compared to the first two main battles, we still saw quite a few deaths. Luckily there were no wipes.

Once I had gotten out of the strike mission I had planned to never do it again until the beta had come around. Of course when I had the pleasure of playing with my fellow editors Lou Contaldi and Courtney Osborn, we did a run through it. Having died in the strike many times before, I had knowledge to help us all get through it much easier.
