My Time With the Destiny Alpha – Good Moves and Final Thoughts

I don’t think I could possibly pamper Bungie’s ego any more with this piece than I have… unless I say more good things about Destiny, which I plan to. The public events are more amazing than I can say. I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again: Bungie knocked it out of the park with the random “mission for everyone” structure of the public events.

Compared to public events, the last two things are small but deserve to be mentioned nonetheless. If you’ve ever played an MMO before, you know that usually the currency that you’ve earned while playing as one character stay with that character. If they’ve got money, it’s all theirs. Not in Destiny, all of the glimmer and Vanguard Marks you’ve collected are shared among all of your characters. Imagine it like this; you’re characters are one big family, or a team, and they have a very “all for one, and one for all” mentality. Lastly, you can use the start menu anywhere except for the black loading screen. As long as you can see some color, you can pull it up. Again, it’s not major feature, but it’s definitely a good move to put that in; gives you something to do at all times.

If you’ve read all of the parts of my Destiny Alpha reveiw, then you certainly get the idea. I think that Destiny is absolutely amazing and I definitely plan to put my money behind it. Be that in the form of buying DLC or what have you. The Alpha itself was a game that I could (and did) play for hours and hours on end, and that’s just the Alpha. To think that it was such a small slice of the game that will be coming to shelves in a little under three months and it was already this amazing is mind blowing. Just after having played the Alpha I’ve already enjoyed the game more than some of the full release titles I’ve played in my time with games. If the Alpha was just half as good as the full game will be, I’m ready for it, and the hype hasn’t stopped building.
