Twitch hoping Streaming can come to handhelds

Kevin Lin, the chief operating officer for Twitch, is hoping to bring the Twitch App to the PlayStation Vita and the Nintendo 3DS.

Talking with GamesIndustry, he said “For now, we’re going to be doing that game by game. Handhelds. That’s something we’d love to do. On handhelds, it’s more of a server/CPU concern, but we definitely want to do it. We want to build viewing apps, that’s much less CPU intensive than broadcasting.”

Recently, Reggie Fils-Aimé, President of Nintendo of America, said that the Wii U won’t have a Twitch App like the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, because it’s “Not fun to watch.” Regardless of what Reggie Fils-Aimé feels on Twitch, events like Twitch Plays and the Smash Invitational prove that they can be a lot of fun to watch and draw in large viewers. Considering Nintendo’s stance on streaming live gameplay, the Vita will most likely get it before the 3DS if Nintendo changes its mind.

My Opinion:

When I got my PlayStation 4, one of the things that I didn’t expect on using a lot was the share feature. I always find myself posting pictures, gameplay footage, and using the Twitch App a few times. It would be nice if Twitch finds a way to use the Streaming Twitch App for both the Nintendo 3DS and the PlayStation Vita. It would be even better if they find a way to use broadcasting on both systems.
