The SyFy sequel to Sharknado (called Sharknado 2: The Second One) is getting its own video game tie-in later this July reports Hollywood Reporter.
Sharknado: The Video Game will be an endless runner for the iPhone and iPad devices. The game’s price has yet to be revealed. Majesco Entertainment (Bloodrayne, Jaws Unleashed) will produce the game while Other Ocean (Ultimate Mortal Kombat) will develop it.
SyFy Vice President Jeff Li believes the Sharknado franchise is “instantly accessible to anyone” and that cultural background, age, or even a viewer’s familiarity with the movie’s plot or book to appreciate the excitement and terror a tornado of sharks has to offer. A video-game tie in is the perfect way for the Sharknado brand to reach a wider audience.
“We want to establish Sharknado as a transmedia property…Videogaming is a perfect medium to extend the franchise.”
My Opinion:
If Nickelodeon can have a website filled with video games devoted to its cartoons, then I see no reason for the SyFy channel to have video game tie-ins for its terrible movies. Honestly, what surprised me the most in all of this was Jeff Li’s mention of a Sharknado book. May God have mercy on all of us.
