According to the Best Buy product details for the GameCube Controller Adapter for Wii U, it has the ability to play multiple Wii U games using the GameCube controller.
The adapter was announced earlier this year at E3 and it was designed so you can play the upcoming Super Smash Bros. for Wii U using a GameCube controller.
You can plug the GameCube Adapter into the Wii U and it will come with 4 controller ports to play with friends offline. The GameCube Controller Adapter for Wii U is $19.99; while there isn’t a date yet for its release, it seems logical that it will release the same day, or close to it, as Super Smash Bros. for Wii U.
My Opinion:
It was smart of Nintendo to have the GameCube controller adapter for Super Smash Bros. for Wii U, but knowing that it can be used in multiple games is even better. When I had a GameCube, I never had problems with the controller despite its weird design. The controller was the reason why I think that Soul Calibur II for the GameCube is the best version of that game. Even Resident Evil 4 played better using the GameCube controller.
Jesse Webster is trying to get used to playing in a smaller screen. You can find him at Twitter.

I was going to get the adapter anyway because my older bro prefers the GameCube controller, but I like this idea. Imagine when the Virtual Console gets GameCube games.

Are they making more controllers or do they expect people to use the adaptors with their old GC controllers?

I’m really glad that there’s an adapter – I’ve always preferred a good ol’ control over the Wiimotes and the like. Watching me play Super Smash Bros. with a Wiimote was painful. =p
