On the Microsoft online store, new Armed Forces Edition Xbox One controllers and headsets were made available for pre-order.
The Armed Forces Controller retails for $64.99, and the Armed Forces Stereo Headset has a price point of $89.99.
Both accessories are available for preorder now and will release on October 1st, 2014.
My Opinion:
I’m not sure about this. The accessories look cool, but there’s no information on the reason that they released them. They aren’t US Armed Forces controllers. There is nothing that indicates an official partnership with any Department of Defense organization. They do not match any camouflage configuration currently utilized by any armed forces that I’ve seen. I wish they had called them “Camouflaged Edition” or something else that doesn’t immediately make me think of the US military. It’s like Microsoft wants to support the troops, but not enough to bother to make an official effort. I think that Microsoft should have announced that they were donating proceeds to organizations like The Wounded Warrior Project, or the USO. They could even give out these accessories to US troops deployed in war zones. Otherwise, this seems like a cheap cash-in. At least, it does to me.
