Gust Co. is Set to Merge with Koei Tecmo

Gust Co., the developers behind the Atelier games and the upcoming Ar Nosurge, will cease to exist as of October 1st. However, fans of the series have nothing to worry about.

According to a press release, Gust Co. is going to be merged with its parent company, Koei Tecmo. Gust has been operating as a separate subsidiary of Koei Tecmo since late 2011, however they will now be fully absorbed.

Koei Tecmo cited a couple of reasons for the merger — they include streamlining efficiency, developing new IP, establishing more games on old IP, and preparing for the switch into the current gen and mobile environment.

In other words, fans of the series have no reason to worry. This is merely Gust Co.’s final transition into Koei Tecmo. You can expect the same (if not better) content from them in the near future.

My Opinion:

As far as I’m concerned, this news is nothing special. Gust has been part of Koei Tecmo for years — now they are just a more engrained part of it. Hopefully, for the fans of Gust’s series, Koei Tecmo holds true on their promises to keep Gust’s IP in mind for future development.
